A MORNING PRAYER
Remember the people we know who have worries and ask God to help them through the day.
Think of the people who have been good to us - thank God for them and ask Him to reward them.
Place ourselves - our talents, our worries, our families - in the hands of God and ask Him to bring us safely through this day.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to
the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world
without end. Amen.
The Lord said to Abram, ‘Leave your country,
your family and your father’s house, for the land I will show you…’
Abram went as the Lord had told him.
A Spring-time of Life and Goodness
The most important thing about each of us
is our capacity for goodness.
We can be a source of light.
We have hands that can care,
Eyes that can see,
Ears that can hear,
Tongues that can speak,
Feet that can walk,
And, above all, hearts that can love.
Lord, help us to believe in our own goodness
and to let the light of that goodness shine.
On seeing this light others find their way,
And you are glorified, O Lord.
Returning to God
We are born in exile and die there too.
As soon as we set sail on the great voyage of life
we begin our return.
When we die,
we do not so much go to God as return to him.
Like homesick cranes that fly night and day
back to their mountain nests,
so let our lives take their voyage to you, O Lord.
For you have made us for yourself,
and our hearts will never rest, until they rest in you.
Only those who have flown home to you have flown at all.
‘Around your throne
the saints, our brothers and sisters,
sing your praise forever.
Their glory fills us with joy,
And their communion with us
in your Church
gives us inspiration and strength
as we hasten on our pilgrimage of faith,
eager to meet them.’
‘In Him who rose from the dead,
our hope of resurrection dawned.
The sadness of death gives way
to the bright promise of immortality.
Lord,
for your people life is changed,
not ended.
When the body of our earthly dwelling lies in death
we gain an everlasting dwelling place in heaven.’
To Mary
Arms that have held him
Circle me round,
Love that has sought him
With me be found;
Hands that have touched him,
Hands that have fed,
Unto his footstool
Let me be led.
Eyes that have looked on him
Look upon me,
Hear me, Immaculate,
Plead at thy knee.
Whisper in paradise,
Christ’s ark above!
Nothing can hurt thee,
Wandering dove!
